Letters to Inspector General
| For the record, here is the letter we drafted to the Inspector General
pleading for release still trying to anticipate more grief.
February 14, 2005
Matthew Cate, Inspector General
Dear Inspector Cate: This is to confirm my multiple requests since January 16, 2005 for Daniel
Provencio
He does in fact qualify for Medi-Cal which pays 100% of other people's hospital bills so why wouldn't the program pay for Danny's? We will need your assistance with making this coverage happen for Mercy Hospital right away. Does the State of California need hospital costs plus the cost of two guards around the clock on a young man who is going no where as he is hooked up to life support? I was denied visits for two weeks over a traffic ticket while my son is in critical condition. Lt. Parriot denies this letter was sent and is blaming Mr. Judd, the President of Mercy Hospital for not releasing Danny to his family, saying that Medi-Cal will only cover 30% of the costs. Lt. Parriot also claims that Mr. Judd said that he would cancel CDC's contract with the hospital if Danny is paroled to me, his mother. When Medi-Cal should cover these costs, I find this situation hard to believe. We are all poor people but it is immoral to keep Danny under guard in his present condition and that is why Medi-Cal is set up, to pay the costs of the poor. Our family wants what is left of my son after being shot by a guard who is probably still working at his job, a guard whose name we do not know yet. We've been through too much here and we have the full backing of United for No Injustice, Oppression or Neglect (UNION) to see this gets done. Sincerely,
Nancy Mendoza CC: B. Cayenne Bird, UNION
