You are Needed to Attend and Bring People to an Important Hearing
Judges Thelton Henderson and Lawrence Karlton are holding an important hearing on June 27 that will impact the lives of every prisoner, parolee in California and their families. It is a joint hearing of the Coleman and Plata cases. A limit on the number of prisoners who can be placed in the system will be decided upon this day. Prison expansion means there will be NO REAL REFORMS so you need to simply show up to sit in the audience of this important hearing to support a prison cap. Both Judges are near retirement age. They need to see that YOU care about prisoners and these reforms that are on the table right now which will have a permanent impact on your life. Do you care about overcrowding, medical neglect, abuse of the mentally ill and harsh sentencing laws that have overflowed the prisons? Before the hearing, please copy and distribute this flyer and write letters to the judges and to editors on all unresolved medical complaints, cases of abuse, problems you have recently encountered within the system. These letters do not substitute the need for you to be present at the hearings. They simply inform the people making the decisions of the status of the prisons. Please post letters to editors on all of our bills especially AB 1539 Expanded Compassionate Release, AB 160 Sentencing Commission, SB 110 Sentencing Commission, AB 1393 Media Access to Prisons, Police Officer Discipline DisclosureSB 1019. Each person has a role in prison and criminal justice reform and if all three million people connected to a State Prisoner voted and participated in electing the right people to office in the first place, we would have none of our current problems. Learn the issues, do something about your devastated circumstances in the UNION. Watch our alerts page for updates on this hearing, ride information and our bills moving through the legislature now.
